Andy Murray has been having a mini-crisis recently, and one that has not involved his deteriorating form since losing in the Australian Open to Roger Federer at the start of the season. This crisis has been one that is almost certainly a result of his Scottishness and his fundamental belief that in reality all Englishmen are Sassenachs. In previous outbursts this has manifested itself is such statements as him decreeing that he supports any football team that is playing against England. This time though it took on an even more sinister overtone when he said that he did not wish to bow to the Queen.

Let us hope that the Queen was kept unaware of this. She had hoped to see Murray previously at Wimbledon but had failed to be able to do so, but this year she made a special attempt to meet him by visiting the tournament during the first week when there was at least a fighting chance that Murray would still be in the competition. Luckily she has not left it too late and fortunately Murray had a change of heart and momentarily swallowed his contempt for all that is English give her a polite bow. He said that he had been practicing in front of the full length mirror in the players’ dressing room.

He won his first match against Jan Hajek and the Queen turned up to watch him play in his second match against Jarkko Nieminen. Actually he played magnificently winning in three straight sets but he was not up against very strong competition. As he walked off the court he gave the Queen a bow which was delivered in exemplary fashion. It is to be hoped that the Queen enjoyed the tennis, though she did not seem to get particularly involved.

Yesterday we had to endure what was probably the most boring match ever played at Wimbledon as John Isner and Nicolas Mahut broke every tennis record by playing 118 games and still ending up even.

Are you a big Wimbledon fan? Why not have a go at betting on this year’s Wimbledon champion? Andy Murray certainly looks on top form this year. Visit www.onebooker.com/es today and check out the latest odds.

Andy Murray has progressed to the third round of the APT Dubai having defeated Igor Kunitsyn 6-2, 6-3. Despite Murray’s dominant score it was not an easy match for him. He reported afterwards that he had played with a painful ankle and during the early stages of the match he was often finding himself short of breath. For Murray fans that must be more than a little worrying, but Murray dismissed saying that he had neither practiced nor trained very much and that the long rallies had taken it out of him. In the next round he will play either Janko Tipsarevic or Andreas Seppi.

Andy Murray is still the favourite to win the championship and is priced at 5/4 by Stan James.

The current champion Nikolay Davydenko had a very difficult time in his second round match against the Frenchman Florent Serra. He lost the first set 6-7 following a tiebreak and in the second set his serve was nearly broken on several occasions though he managed to hang on and win the next two sets 6-4, 6-1.

Not withstanding this hiccup, Nikolay Davydenko remains the second favourite for the championship at 7/2 with Stan James.

Meanwhile the French Open winner and Wimbledon champion Rafael Nadal, not playing in the tournament due to a damaged knee, has been finding some action elsewhere. He has been shooting a quite edgy video with Shakira, the singer and pop star from Columbia. In the video that goes with her latest release ‘Gypsy’, Shakira, clad in little else other than a semi-transparent scarf, and Nadal hold hands and gaze into each others eyes.

VIP guests at the ATP include many members of the England cricket team. They watched a centre court match between Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Michael Llodra which Tsonga won before joining tennis players for an open air party on the lawns of the Aviation Club.
